The Devil's Point
Lying west of the Lairig Ghru pass in the Cairngorm Mountains stands Bod an Deamhain, The Devil’s Point. The name is no coincidence but given due to the horrors that have come atop this peak. Back in the 17th century, it was said that the young girls of Clan Chattan would hear a voice call their names in the middle of the night. It would always start as a whisper and as they grew older the voice grew stronger. The voice always seemed soothing and safe however the people knew that is was not the gentle call of an angel but the seductive whisper of the devil himself. When the girls grew into young woman and married, the whispering would stop and all was peaceful throughout the night. That was until the young women fell pregnant and the voice would begin to whisper to them once again, willing them to climb the Bod an Deamhain. The mothers to be started to disappear throughout the night, only to be seen by moonlight on top the Devil’s Point, edging closer to the mountain edge to eventually step off. The families of the girls would try to stop them however only a few would succeed. It is said that if you camp below the devils point you can hear the screams of the girls as they fall.
