The Piper haunts Rosehearty Gwite
During the battle of Pinkie, Forbes of Pitsligo put up a tremendous fight but was eventually killed under the hammering feet of heavy horse.
He was laid to rest there but his devoted piper was so distressed he composed a slow death march.
However, once home he travelled the estate playing this melancholy melody and dirge to inform the clan of the dreadful event and so distressed did he become that at the west of Rosehearty, known as the "Wastart, " he missed his footing and fell into a deep Gwite now known as the " Piper's Gwite. " There on the anniversary of Pitsligo's death allegedly one can still hear the piper playing his mournful tune.
Surprisingly his image is on the South facing wall of this Gwite and this can still be seen when the light allows slight shadow.
